Herod is appointed by the Romans as a client king and with the help of Roman general Mark Anthony retakes Jerusalem and names it capital of Judea. He marries Mariamme the Hasmonian and thus becomes the legitimate heir to the throne.  By 26BCE Herod begins reconstruction of the Temple. He builds it in Greco-Roman style in order to please his Roman overlords
